PowerPoint 2007 2010 Create a Custom Layout

Starting with 2007 it is possible to modify or create new layouts to suit your needs! In this tutorial we create a SubTitle Layout to make it easy to have a Non bulletted sub title and bulletted text. The principle will be the same for other uses though.

Create The Layout

Go to VIEW > Slide master and Insert a new layout.

Insert Layout

The new layout will look like this with just a title.

The new layout

Next we'll add the placeholder for the sub title.

Insert a text placeholder

Select Add Placeholder. Choose type = TEXT and drag to the position and size you need and then change the text to 'Click to add Sub Title'. You will probably want to delete levels 2 - 5 and set the font you need and "No Bullets". It should look something like this.

Add a text placeholder

Finally add another text placeholder but this time leave the bullets.

The Final Layout Should Resemble This:

Result!

You might also want to give your layout a name by RIGHT clicking the thumbnail >> Rename
